Reconnecting

About 3 months ago I decided to contact a old friend that I hadn't seen or spoken to in over 2 years. It's not that something happened, we just lost touch. This friend was one of the few people I've met that I felt a strong connection with--both emotionally and physically (although we've never been intimately involved). He is possibly the only non-relative male that I felt completely secure and protected with. When I decided to contact him recently he seemed happy to hear from me. Over the last few months our communication had become more frequent, until 3 weeks ago. I have a habit of speaking very frankly, sometimes not thinking about the consequences of my actions beforehand. While playfully teasing one another, he asked a question that I answered very directly. Although I thought about how sensitive he can be to criticism of any kind, I didn't refrain from making a critique on his behaviour. Of course he took it the wrong way, and now he isn't speaking to me. I don't want to lose him as a friend, especially since I think he is a really good person (although he can be a little insecure). I no longer live in the same city, so I don't know how to reach other than by phone or email--which he hasn't responded to either. Should I continue to try to patch things up or just let it go?
